Talent Development Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Talent Development?
Talent Development is name for the gifted program in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). The goal of the Talent Development and Advanced Studies Program in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is to provide rigorous curriculum and academic opportunities so each student may reach a classroom performance level consistent with his/her intellectual ability.
What does this look like in the school?
CMS uses a Catalyst Model, in which the TD Catalyst teacher works with administration, teachers and students to make sure that the academic program is rigorous and meets the needs of gifted learners. This is done through planning lessons with teachers, co-teaching, modeling lessons and resources, creating differentiated assignments and projects, and working directly with students.

How do I know if my child qualifies for the TD Program?
All students in CMS are tested in second grade. Students in grades 3-5 can be reevaluated for the program based on achievement testing as well as classroom achievement. Parents will be notified late fall if their child is eligible for retesting.
