Kelly Kollar
This is my sixth year at Polo Ridge! I previously taught at Tuckaseegee LI/TD Magnet School for 8 years where I taught a self-contained gifted class and began a multi-age program for grades 3-5. I also worked for two years as the TD Catalyst Teacher/Magnet Coordinator. I am passionate about gifted education, as well as challenging all students to work and learn at their highest potential. I believe that every child deserves to learn at a pace and at a level of rigor that will challenge them to think and grow.
I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio. I moved to Charlotte in 2005. I am married to a sixth grade math teacher who gives me lots of ideas about how to challenge our elementary students! We have three daughters, Lucy (6), Eleanor (3), and Penny (1).
I love to read and I believe that fostering the love for reading in children is one of the most important things we can do as educators and parents. Some of my favorite children's books are Little Women, The Series of Unfortunate Events, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Green Book, The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Out of my Mind and The Phantom Tollbooth.
Education:
Bachelors in Elementary Education- Ohio University 2001
Masters in Academically and Intellectually Gifted Education- University of North Carolina Charlotte 2009
National Board Certified- 2010
