All second graders are tested for the Talent Development program beginning in the fall. Students testing results are used to determine eligibility.

CMS TD Certification
- Students must earn 12 points on the Talent Development Identification Rubric in order to certify Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) in both reading and math.
- Students must earn 6 points in either subject area in order to certify AIG in math only or reading only.
- Students must earn 6 points in aptitude with a 92nd-95th percentile on the CogAT and not met any other certification criteria in order to certify as Intellectually Gifted (IG)

2018-2019 Second Grade Assessment Calendar
There are a variety of opportunities for second grade students to potentially earn points on the identification rubric. These opportunities will be explained in detail at the meeting. A tentative schedule for certification is below.
September 2018- All second graders take Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Parents will be notified of the testing date.
October 2018- CogAT results sent home. First round of students are identified AIG based on CogAT composite score.
October/November 2018- Based on CogAT results, eligible students will take Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) with parent permission. Students eligible for portfolio are creating work samples.
November/December 2018 -ITBS results sent home. Second round of students are identified AIG based on CogAT and ITBS. Students eligible for portfolio are creating work samples.
January 2019- Portfolios for eligible students will be presented to the TD department.
February 2019- Portfolio results sent home. Last round of students will certify AIG based on portfolio, subject-based identification in reading or math based on CogAT/ITBS, or IG certification based on CogAT percentile.
